A long-time commentator for Italian terrestrial TV until 2018, when RAI lost the TV contract, he returned to full-time racing in 2003, in the FIA GT series, and continues to drive, although largely tends to appear at historic events lately, with some long-distance GT events thrown in. He also worked as a racing instructor and was head of Maserati's driving instructor school, working as a brand ambassador. In 2014, he became a director of the Automobile Club of Milan, which amongst other things, runs the Monza circuit, and Ivan was heavily involved with the Italian Grand Prix and the future of the race. Ivan now lives in Switzerland where he runs a medical equipment manufacturing concern. He is also involved in safety innovations for road and racing cars. Capelli was quite brilliant in Formula 1 with the unfancied Leyton House team, but unfortunately his dream move to Ferrari in 1992 was a disaster and he was out of F1 swiftly afterwards.
