Midfield sportscar racer who largely raced either his own or Italian private entries in Formula 1. Scarlatti started racing in sportscars around 1950, proving capable at a club level in his homeland. He took a win at the 1956 Trofeo Sardo and then finished fourth at the Targa Florio which gave him encouragement to try Formula 1, firstly as a privateer and then with Maserati as a works Grand Prix and sportscar driver. His most notable win was in 1961, winning the Pescara 4 Hour race before retiring at the end of 1963.
