Now retired after a successful spell in sportscars - he won at Sebring in 1998 and 2002, Le Mans in 1994, and was the 1990 FIA World Sports Prototype Drivers Champion. Started in rallying before moving up the ranks, but his F1 debut probably came a little too early in his career. Now involved in business projects, but he was beset by major tax problems in 2008. Nowadays, Mauro resides in Monaco, where he runs a real estate and property business. His son has also been racing.
