Superb driver who died from burns sustained in a fiery crash at Monaco three days previously. Bandini, whose father was murdered during the latter part of World War Two, started work as a apprentice mechanic in Milan, before opening his own garage in 1955, although he was still only 20 years of age. He began racing in 1957 and his talent and speed very quickly became evident. Lorenzo only ever won two F1 races, one that counted for the World Championship and one that didn't, but during his six year spell in Formula 1, he was always one of the top drivers and an excellent team mate to John Surtees at Ferrari.
