Died from injuries sustained in a sportscar crash. He remains the oldest Grand Prix winner of them all, and is well remembered for his endurance prowess, but he was also a very consistent and fast driver over a long period of time, with 13 Grand Prix wins, which included Monaco in 1935 and two Italian Grand Prix victories. Initially a trained accountant, Fagioli only took up racing as a pastime when twenty-seven years old, but soon did very well at hillclimbs. He left accountancy and became a full-time racing driver a couple of years later and won the 1933 Italian National Championship. A hot-headed man on and off the track, he initially retired from racing due to rheumatism before returning in 1948.
