Died of throat cancer. He had continued to race despite the illness but had to retire in 1954. He had a long and successful career, particularly in sportscars, winning more Mille Miglias than other driver, with triumphs in 1938, 1947, 1948 and 1949. He also won the Targa Florio in 1948 and 1949. Biondetti moved to Florence in his early 20's and initially raced motorbikes before starting to race cyclecars in 1927, when he bought a Salmson. By 1930, he had progressed enough to race at Grand Prix's. Biondetti was also a talented engineer who entered a number of specially modified cars over the years.
