Garage owner for his whole working (and racing) life, he competed at Chimay for over 30 years, from 1926 to 1959, just a few months before his death. The oldest man, most probably forever, to make his Grand Prix debut - he was 53 years, 7 months and 21 days old when he entered his home GP in 1952. His affinity with Chimay was evident when he twice won the Grand Prix des Frontieres there in 1931 and 1932 but he did also race in hillclimbs. Legat also ran a car breakdown recovery service.
