American Champion three times, he died in a Champ Car race at Langhorne. Bryan was quite a tall man for a racer, over 6 foot tall, but that proved no handicap at all to a man who would turn up at almost every race in his cowboy-like attire - boots, western-style checked shirt, jeans and a Stetson hat. However, Bryan had some justification to wear such a getup, as he was a former competitor in rodeo. Bryan also competed in water-skiing and pole vaulting as a teenager. After serving his country in World War 2, Bryan raced hot rods and midget cars before becoming a legend in sprint cars.
