Primarily a test driver for American Motors in Detroit, Les also had time to go racing. An accomplished midget driver, he later became series (the Car Owners Racing Association, or CORA) president, but carried on racing til the 1980's. Scott was CORA Midget champion in 1976, 1978 and 1979. Scott only stopped racing when a heart condition forced him to concentrate on the sport away from the cockpit. Les's real name was actually William, and despite often being listed as being from Kokomo, Indiana, Scott was actually born in Canada, but moved to the United States as a boy, living in Livonia, Michigan for a while. Scott served the US Navy during World War Two. A proud member of the Methodist church, Scott was a qualified mechanical engineer.
