Pennsylvania based private entrant and car owner, who tried, and ultimately failed, to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 four times. Tended to specialise in dirt track events in, or around his home state. Brubaker attempted to qualify a car with an exotic history - a Maserati V8RI originally raced by Philippe Etancelin in Grand Prix's, Brubaker's car was renamed a Jack Maurer Special. After failing to qualify in 1949, Brubaker sold it to fellow racer George Weaver. Brubaker carried on racing for years though, mainly in sprint cars, as he was still racing in the early '70's. Jim, who served in World War Two, was a passionate deer hunter who was very proud of his racing past. His son, Jim Brubaker Jr. also raced cars locally on dirt tracks.
