Dirt track and midget star with a few wins in the 1950's. Knepper was inducted into the National Midget Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 2009. He began racing as a teenager before the war, before serving in World War Two. He was lucky to survive after his B-17 bomber was shot down in Germany, Knepper becoming a prisoner of war. He also raced in stock and sprint cars. Knepper was no relation to Arnie, but he was one of four brothers who raced midgets around the same time as Ray - Ollie, Arthur and Walter being the other three racers.
