One of the sprint car greats, killed in a sprint car crash. A race is still held his memory today. Branson was a truck driver initially, who after World War 2, started racing in midgets. Initially it was quite tough for Don, with a young family to support, so he also worked in a petrol station and drove taxis. His career started ascending from 1952 onwards, and from there on until 1966, he either won races or titles. Branson's crash tragically came in his what was planned to be his last ever race before taking up a role as Goodyear's local racing sales manager.
