Killed when he collided with Jud Larson (who also died) in a sprint-car race. Real name William, he was an excellent East Coast midget and dirt track racer. Riegel started racing in micro midgets near his home and then in 1956 joined the American Racing Drivers Club, winning seventeen races in their organisation, with all but two of his wins coming at the Hatfield Speedway. Red moved into USAC sprint cars in 1961 and the year before his death achieved his best championship finish, coming 9th in the series with impressive wins at Reading and Allentown, both in his home State.
