Long-time based in El Cajon, California. Car builder and owner of sprintcars, he kept links with the sport. Thomas was the 1966 Californian Racing Association sprint car champion as both a driver and a car owner, and also raced in midget cars. Thomas' profession, however, was as a heavy equipment operator. Throughout the 1960's, Thomas was one of California's most prominent and successful sprint car drivers, builders and managers, but also raced in the Mid-West in USAC events in the late 1960's. Don was also 1957 San Diego Racing Association Modified Champion.
