Killed in Le Mans testing. US-based sportscar ace who was a Jaguar dealer and body shop owner in New Jersey - the latter was following in the footsteps of his father Fred after initially starting at the family firm as a welder. Walt served in World War Two which had a influence on Hansgen's hair going prematurely grey before he was thirty. Hansgen also raced a variety of other machinery, including NASCAR, after starting his career in 1951 in a Jaguar XK120 that he had restored at the family business. His career then developed from there and he took many wins and championships in various SCCA, Formula Junior and also saloon cars.
