A fine midget driver, with numerous wins. Mainly based in Ohio during his racing career. Died in a plane crash along with his wife Shirley, when the plane he was piloting crashed in poor weather, although an overloaded plane was also blamed for the disaster. Eddie was one of the AAA stalwarts from 1949 until 1966, racing as an oval specialist, with a penchant for dirt ovals. His best finish came at Trenton, New Jersey, in 1959, when he finished third and in both that year, and the following year, Eddie came 15th in the championship standings. Away from the sport, Eddie was a plastic products salesman. Johnson qualified for a lot of Indianapolis 500's simply by waiting for a drive at the circuit and then, given the chance, but little time, he put the car on the grid every time.
