Killed in a horrible accident in the US Grand Prix. Formula Vee regular - who became the 1973 European Super Vee champion - who managed to scrape the funds together to race in Formula 1 before it all ended tragically. Koinigg's first passion was actually ski-ing and he was talented enough to represent his country as a youth before moving into motor racing in 1969, initially racing Mini Cooper's. Aside from single-seaters, Koinigg also raced touring cars.
