Killed in the qualifying for the San Marino GP. A charming, enthusiastic chap, he worked extremely hard to make Formula 1, with a long career in Japan and sportscars, which included winning, dramatically, the 1986 Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch. He also worked in the media and as a mechanic to try and earn the budget he needed. The grief at his death was shown by Ayrton Senna having an Austrian flag in his cockpit to unveil should he have finished on the podium a day later.
