In and out of F1 from 2004-2007, he was later a test driver for BMW between 2008-2009, as well as racing in sportscars. Although being Hispania's test driver led to a brief F1 return in 2010, a full-time F1 drive was no longer a viable option, so he was in sportscars in 2011, and in 2012, appeared in Australian V8's and Italian TC's. In 2013, he went into GT racing in Australia, appearing at their endurance classics and raced in the Superstars touring car series in Italy, before finishing the season in the ELMS, in which he remained in 2014. In 2015, he moved into the World Endurance Championship and in 2016, he began racing part-time in the Blancpain Series. In 2017, he made it a full-time drive and repeated this in 2018. In 2020, Christian raced in the International GT Open Series and in 2021 also switched to the DTM series to dovetail his drives in IGTO. In 2022, he switched to the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup where he remained for 2023. In 2024, he is in the NLS series. Christian also works as a commentator and pundit for Austrian TV.
