Now runs the family sawmill and glued solid-wood products manufacturing business, Binderholz, in Zillertal, Austria, and has been involved with it for over 30 years. Hans took it over from his father, Franz, who founded the family business as a timber trading concern. The firm have grown under Hans' watch and now have six depots, including one in Germany. Binder was a protege of Helmut Marko after Marko had to quit racing due to his eye injury in 1972 and Hans impressed in German Formula Ford 1600 and then German Formula 3. Hans was largely a front-runner in Formula 2 but never did actually win in the category. Once his Formula 1 career was over, Binder pretty much retired from the sport to focus on the family firm.
