Also worked as a race mechanic. Largely based in Detroit, he also was based in Frankfort, Indiana and Akron, Ohio during his career. Raced for a number of years between the early 1920's until 1936, at which stage he appears to have finished racing. Raced primarily in big cars during his career, with a brief spell in midgets as well in the mid-1930's. He survived a big crash in 1933 which a few newspaper report erroneously described him as being killed, to come back and keep winning throughout 1934.
