Killed in qualifying for the Indianapolis 500, which also claimed the life of his riding mechanic. Real name Albert. Started racing on dirt-tracks as young as 15(!). Although he never really succeeded at Indy, he did do extremely well elsewhere and even raced in Europe, briefly leading the 1925 Italian Grand Prix at Monza. Worked in the family railroad/levee construction business and worked as a commercial airline pilot. He had retired from racing bar his Indianapolis attempts when he was killed.
