Son Mike also became a successful midget star like his father. Gregg died in 2002 after a long battle with illness. He started racing back in 1939 in a B-Class midget, winning that class in his initial year of racing in the Oregon Midget Racing Association's Championship. Gregg was lucky to survive a number of big crashes in his career, however, he also won over twenty championships in midget or sprint car racing, finally retiring from racing in 1965. He was particularly strong in the American Northwest midget circuits in Oregon and Washington States.
