Became a car dealer for around 20 years but Wolfgang had just recently retired when he suffered a fatal heart-attack, aged only 60. Seidel's finest achievement was winning the Targa Florio in 1959 with Edgar Barth. Seidel started racing in the early 1950's as an amateur driver, largely in German Formula 2 and endurance events. His prowess in endurance saw him race in Europe and the United States. He left racing after a disappointing experience at the 1962 German Grand Prix saw him fall out of love with the sport.
