Now retired due to getting constant tinnitus in his ear when racing, which got so bad, he couldn't drive a car. At the time he was racing single-seaters and sportscars in Japan. Volker is now back living in Heddensheim, Germany, where he is involved with parental services and management enterprises. Has little involvement in motorsport nowadays, despite enjoying success before his enforced retirement. Volker was 1985 German Formula 3 champion, a race winner in Japanese Formula 3000 and the DTM, but his finest moment came when he won the 1991 Le Mans 24 Hours for Mazda.
