His single seater career more or less ended with Formula 3000, but Markus then raced on very regularly and competitively for decades. He raced for some years in the DTM, but really made his career out of racing trucks in Europe, which he did for almost 20 years. In 2014, without the budget to compete in trucks properly, he returned to cars, and raced in German long-distance endurance racing. His son, Moritz, is also racing, and Markus now supports him via engineering support (and occasionally drives with him too (the Nurburgring 24 Hours, for example), but has opened a karting track in his home town of Fulda and works as a karting instructor.
