Raced on in many disciplines - sportscars, GT racing and the Lamborghini Super Trophy. Now retired, he became national sales manager of a car-hire/loans company, ELAT. Velay was a graduate of the French Formula Renault Turbo series, moving into Formula 3 after three seasons. He initially ran his own team, being his own mechanic, but then had more success with Duqueine and Winfield. He raced in French GT's as well as the FIA GT series. Velay started getting involved in the leasing business in 1997, before progressing to regional management in 2004. Four years later, Velay became a national manager, which he continued for a few years and then in 2012, formed his own business, David Velay Assurances, which deals with vehicle insurance and rental.
