Now retired from driving. He is a coach and driver manager, and has also been involved recently in French Formula Renault. Bernard had a long rivalry with Jean Alesi in French lower formulae - Bernard being the smooth Prost-like driver to Alesi's more spectacular Senna-like efforts and was a race winner in Formula Renault, Formula 3 and Formula 3000 but his career was both disrupted and never really recovered from a broken leg sustained in practice for the 1991 Japanese Grand Prix, which left him out of racing for two years. Eric then went into sportscars, winning in ALMS and the Sports Racing World Cup in 1999.
