Mechanic and chauffeur, the son of a taxi driver, Roger raced for 15 years in motorcycles, winning the 1937 250cc French Grand Prix and the 1938 350cc French Grand Prix. After the war he concentrated on cars mainly and raced on until 1960. Loyer's biggest success in this time was victory in the 1953 Coupe du Salon at Montlhery, which was one of the reasons Loyer was invited to race for Gordini at the season-opening 1954 Argentine Grand Prix. He later designed many automobile devices.
