Real name was Beuford. Although Doc is often credited as being a doctor, he was actually a welder by profession. Shanebrook's father was the doctor as he was an optician but Shanebrook was also called Doc for the way he would doctor and change his car to achieve good results. Doc spent many years in Pennsylvania and used his welding skills to good knowledge by designing a roll-top steel roof for a midget car to try and improve driver safety which Shanebrook then tested - twice - by deliberately rolling his car twice to show how good his invention was. This was undeniably risky, but it worked; Shanebrook walked away without injury and the car only had a bit of paintwork damage.
