East German racer who was a rarity at the time as he did not defect to the West to further his racing career, although that was largely down to his age at the time, choosing to retire in the mid-1950's. Krause mostly raced BMW's in speed events and rallies and most notably became 1954 East German Formula 2 champion. It was in this discipline that he was very successful, winning a number of races between 1951 and 1954. Krause set up his own garage business in Reichenbach in 1929, racing in some events pre-World War Two in his BMW sportscar.
