Bill was also a talented ice speed skater and took part in trials for the 1932 Winter Olympics. Later worked as a test driver and journalist, as well as a sales rep for oil and air filters for automobiles. Bill was a gifted sprint car driver, taking over 150 top three finishes during his career as well as winning the 1941 AAA Eastern title in the discipline. He eventually retired, after many comebacks in 1959 from a career that started in 1937. Sadly, he suffered with serious ill-health for some years before his death.
