Indianapolis 500 rookie of the year in 1936, Pixley mainly raced in California and the Midwest. He was killed in a crash at Hammond, Indiana, at the Roby Speedway, when his car skidded and overturned in a qualifying event. Pixley's full name was William Raymond, and he worked as a painter. Pixley was a sprint car specialist who had raced for a few years before his death.
