Raced mostly in stock, sprint and midget cars. Died after a fight with pancreatic cancer. His son, of the same name, who served in Vietnam, became an amateur racing historian keen on remembering his father's name and those who raced with him. Rann took up racing after World War Two. He initially started in midgets, largely around Dallas and other circuits in Texas. He later attempted a couple of NASCAR events in 1954 and 1955, sometimes credited as being based in Arizona, but had raced stock cars since 1951, again in the Texas area.
