Decent, fast but often unlucky driver. Later worked as an accessory rep at Indianapolis and often drove pace cars at USAC Championship events. Retired in 1965 after a thirty-three year career, often in midget cars, that started long before World War Two. Died whilst visiting the Daytona 500 race. Russo was also a car constructor. A short, stocky, tough-as-nails man, he overcame both brother Joe's death in 1934 and a broken leg in 1946. Won the AAA Eastern Midget Championship in 1938.
