Died of heat exhaustion and severe dehydration after the gruellling Indianapolis 500 in sweltering heat of 1953. A reliable racer, he was normally a midfield runner. He began racing in 1939 and carried on racing pretty much until his death, however he had to miss two years of racing in 1948 and 1949, due to injuries sustained in a car accident. A frequent racer in Michigan, he drove in midget and sprint cars. He won the 1941 Ohio State Dirt Track Crown, but his greatest success was probably in 1946 when he won both the CSRA Big Car Championship and the CSRA Midget Championship.
