The first Texan to appear at the Indianapolis 500, he worked as a mechanic, as well as being Louis Disbrow's racing mechanic (credited as Calahan), at the Indianapolis 500 in 1913. Later became a fireman. Calohan entered two of his own cars during the 1914 season; his own Stafford for the Indianapolis 500 and a dirt oval race at Sioux City, and then a Marmon car for the double-bill at Elgin's road course. However, he failed to qualify or appear in all four races.
