Good road racer, winner of the 1913 San Diego race. Killed in an AAA National Championship race. His father, a Swedish immigrant, was San Diego's youngest ever mayor, serving between 1893 and 1897 but also worked as a property developer, whilst his mother was of Spanish ancestry. Billy later based himself in Los Angeles, where, like his father, he married a Spaniard, Margaret Mazzini, but the marriage lasted just 8 months before he died. Carlson burst on the scene in 1913, with San Diego being his best performance, but until his death, Billy was a strong contender for more wins.
