Killed in a race at Des Moines, when his tyre blew. Cooper was also a car builder. Cooper was actually born Joseph Hoover, but was put up for adoption and he took the name of his adopted father when he was four. Cooper moved to Ohio in the late 1900's, becoming a car salesman, but also worked for the Sebring Auto Works. This is where he developed a racing car that he would begin to compete in from 1910 onwards. Cooper started to take some good results before suffering a personal tragedy when his child died and then soon after met his untimely fate himself.
