Raced for over fifteen years in the sport and also worked as a car tester. A mechanical engineer by profession, he remained involved in that industry for most of his working life. Died of cirrhosis of the liver. Hill started in the sport as a relief driver for Fred Clemens in the 1911 Indianapolis 500, taking part in practice, but never actually being used as a relief. He failed to qualify in 1912 and 1915 and after a dirt oval event in Galesburg, disappeared off the AAA radar until he returned again in 1925. That year saw him specialise in board oval racing, taking a few good results before his improbable return to Indianapolis, finally making the race in 1927, before two more failures to qualify; after which he seems to have stopped racing for good.
