Died in hospital after a USAC sprint car crash, after the chequered flag had been flown, suffering grevious head injuries when his car rolled over at the next turn after the finish line. A supermodified and sprint car ace, who also had some good results at Indianapolis, Davis started his career in his home State racing jalopies and supermodified racing before making a name in CRA racing. Davis raced before and after service with the United States Army in Korea during the Korean War and then established himself in sprint cars.
