Killed in practice for the Indianapolis 500. A talented stalwart of the Indy 500, he raced there over an amazing four decades. Away from racing, he also ran a garage and an upholstery business. Miller started racing in 1924 in Michigan and established himself as a mechanically-emphatic driver. At Indianapolis, his best result was third in 1938, but he took five top-ten finishes during his time there. He was lucky to avoid serious injury or death in a crash there in 1939, which left him out of racing for months. Miller, who was an immensely respected driver, had planned retirement at the end of the 1953 season but fate intervened.
