Houck primarily acted as a relief driver and riding mechanic. He later ran an auto shop in Yucaipa, until his death from cancer, aged 65. Houck was the riding mechanic with Fred Frame when they won the 1932 Indianapolis 500, but also appeared there in 1933 (again with Frame) and initially in 1930, with Mel Kenealy. Houck decided to give it a go himself in 1931, but it unfortunately was not a success.
