For many years, Bob was an Formula 1 and latterly, Formula 2 entrant. Also a businessman, away from racing, running Parr's of Leicester, a garage which specialised in oil engines, commercial vehicles and trucks. A book about his life was released in 2014, to mark 100 years since his birth. At his local circuit at Mallory Park, Leicestershire, there was a race, and still is a challenging corner named in his honour. Made his debut as a teenager back in 1933 in sprint and speed trials which he continued for some years before racing at a higher level until World War 2. A very capable driver, he won two British Empire Trophy races before he retired from race driving in 1961. Bob, whose father was a motor car engineer, died of heart disease in 1990. Earlier in his working life, Bob was a fleet maintenance engineer for the Leicester and District Bus Company. Bob's passion away from cars was stamps, being a keen philatelist.
