A company director for all his working life, which funded his racing activities, Hampshire began racing in 1938 in trials and hillclimbs and then appeared in Donington's last race before the war in 1939, finishing the handicap race in 2nd place. He then did an able job in Grand Prix racing, and continued in hillclimbs and speed trials, as well as Libre racing, before finishing his career in 1955 in sportscars, winning the Aintree Sports Car race to end his racing activities on a high note. Died after battling against lung cancer.
