Became Mayor of Vergeze. A part-time viniculturist, following in the footsteps of his father Fernand, who had the funds to support his sons racing efforts, Maurice lived in the Vergeze area for the remainder of his life. Trintignant initially got into the sport as a mechanic for his two older brothers Rene and Louis. However Louis was killed in 1933, but this didn't deter Maurice from racing, which he started in 1938. This started a career which carried on right until 1965, which saw him famously take two Monaco Grand Prix wins and victory at the 1954 Le Mans 24 Hours, amongst other notable results. Maurice, who was awarded the Legion d'Honneur in 1960, remained a keen visitor to historic events and reunions until a short while before his death.
