Real name Robert, he showed a lot of promise in lower formulae, but crashes, lack of money and not performing in the big feeder races meant he never realised his potential. However, in hillclimbs, he was hugely successful and won numerous times. He also raced in touring cars, but worked as a mechanic as well. Got into the sport as his father was a sales agent for Renault, but also his grandfather was a constructor of engines from the late 19th century onwards. Now retired, and still enjoys visiting historic events. Also runs a small games business in Lyon, which is notable especially for its massive pinball machine collection.
