Was working as a bookkeeper when he started racing in the late 1960's. Died in 2020. He was running a repair garage in the South of France, and worked there as a mechanic. Couderc was very impressive in lower formulae, mostly in Formula Renault, and also raced in hillclimbs, but his career never made the natural step up the ranks that was expected. After his spell in Formula 2, Alain raced in Aurora F1, French touring cars and sportscars internationally.
