Former hillclimb expert and sportscar driver. Now works as a businessman. Baltisser had both experience in the Interserie series and German Formula 3 before his brief spell in Formula 2, driving a privately run March 792. His sportscar career went back to the early 1970's and was a regular driver in his own Osella during their earlier days in the sport. After a brief spell again in sportscars in 1981, as well as some more hillclimbing, Walter left the sport, still suffering from injuries he received in a crash in Formula 2 in 1980. Walter is very proud of his efforts in the sport, with over 400 trophies adorning his home. He worked as both a car and agricultural machinery mechanic and contractor initially before working as a mechanic for Karl Foitek, the father of Gregor. Foitek's racing past inspired Baltisser to race himself, initially testing a Lotus Elan. Baltisser's business interests include a nightclub and a bar and a restaurant, but he is also a keen fisherman.
