Father of Joel. Until his death in 2017, Romeo was Joel's advisor, but also ran his large real estate and financial business; the family, including Joel, now look after it, with portfolios including insurance consultancy and asset management. Romeo's interest in the sport came via his uncle, Florian, who was a successful sidecar racer, but Camathias went into car racing instead from 1973 onwards, primarily driving in saloon car racing in Italy and then in the European Touring Car Championship. But then Camathias switched to sportscars where he enjoyed most success and then raced on until 1988. Camathias was, by his own admission, an amateur enthusiast, but he came 2nd in the 1977 Daytona 24 Hours.
